Do I Have A Year for the 25?

 This is #15 of the 25 Motif Challenge - IF the Challenge is not from January to January, but for twelve months. I am not sure how it works, but relying on something Chiclet said somewhere, I am assuming I can use my November 2009 to November 2010 time-line as my  Challenge time.  Is this correct?

 
At any rate, I made this in about an hour, yesterday,  for a friend I had lunch with today, who is so appreciative that it is a joy to give her a little motif!

There was thread on the shuttle left over from the wreath motif, and I surprised myself by tatting this up so very fast.  Wow - last year, at this time, I would never have believed that would be possible! I also seem to be using a lot of beads in my "me-time".

 I have another question.  I have a whole lot of Cébélia thread.  In the past few months, I have become very picky about the thread I use, and am wondering if I will ever touch this stuff again.  Anyone else in Tat-land know what I am talking about?  Whatever are you to do with a bin of thread you will never use up?

  3. Lol I have some Flora that I'll probably not get back to because of Lizbeth's arrival on the scene. I do like Cebelia more once it's been in the hands of the good Dr. The dye seems to condition it a bit, but I still reach for Lizbeth mostly.

    P.S. what is that varigated you are using there?

  5. That's really pretty and made in just an hour! Sounds like you are hitting your tatting stride. I joined the challenge in January just to make remembering easy, now I've got to get tatting!

  6. Well if postage wasn't so expensive to send abroad and if I hadn't got a sister I can give my 'unloved' thread to then I'd suggest a swop!!! I like Flora though not sure about Cebelia. Don't like the Turkish threads but Sally does!!! Problem solved - for me. That really is a lovely motif and your colours are stunning.

    I know exactly what you mean about the preference for Lizbeth over Cebelia. Cebelia was great for crocheting with, but I just don't like it for tatting - not since I experienced Lizbeth, anyway. I'll pass mine on to someone who crochets.

    I decided to start the 25 Motif Challenge over with Motif #1. It just seemed unlucky to start at #9. LOL! Besides, like sewmuchfun4 said, it'll help me remember which # I'm on.

  8. I put my unloved thread in a bin for the use of the entire household. My teenage niece likes to cut lengths of it for making braided friendship bracelets (I've tried to convince her to tat them, but have been, so far, unsuccessful). The 8-year-old likes to have a bit of string for leashes for stuffed animals and to make belts for tissue dresses. My sister uses it for crochet things. I even use it -- I make thicker string by working it through the lucet. However, if you want to get rid of your Cebelia -- send it to me! I like it. :)

  9. I love Cebelia thread, there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. It's a high quality thread. That said, I have a stash of it I haven't touched in years, but that's only because I have been mesmerized by the lure of HDT of late. HDT is expensive stuff, just because cebelia is a lot less expensive doesn't mean it's not good quality. Just hang onto it or sell it whatever.

  10. you may find that you will come back to the cebelia. If not, you can always find someone to swap with or use it to teach. I find that I tend to come back to threads and use them after the shine of the new thread wears off.

  11. I haven't used Cebelia (unless it was transformed by the good Doctor or another HDT artist) since the early 1990's. Wow...that makes me sound like a real thread snob. I don't hate Cebelia, it is just that I like the firmer threads better now that I have more options.

    But I have used the Cebelia for weaving projects and it makes a very nice tassel.

  12. Such a simple motif but so beautiful in those colours. I possess only one ball of Cebelia sent to me in an exchange. its very soft but ok if I don't have to untat and has a nice shine to it.
    Flora thread is fab, top notch Coats is the best IMHO, my one ball of Lizbeth is fab.

  13. I really like coats too; the only way I get it is n the HDT of Tatskool.
    Which I love…awaiting a BIG order from Ireland.
    My least favorite thread is Valdini; but even that has a place and a pattern.

    One thing - I did not mention any thread that I preferred over Cébélia. Like Chiclet, I have become enamoured with the HDT's outthere. Hard to use anything else!

    But, I shall take your advice that I should just hang on to it. I may very well go back and use it later on.

    There is a lot of it as I bought it in Toronto at a craft store last year when I was just learning to tat. That was all that I thought was available. I had not stumbled into the realm on-line buying! $$$!

  15. I stocked up on Cebelia from Herrschner's about 10 years ago before I found out about the nice crisp 6 ply threads, much less HDT. I still use it a lot. Sometimes I use it as the actual project, and sometimes as a "rough draft" to practice a new technique or pattern in progress before making the final version in costlier thread.
