The T.A.T. is in The Mail!

 Yes, it is TRUE!  I mailed in
my final T.A.T. package this morning.
March 1st, right on schedule!  I am so proud of myself: a true addict and a fine obsessive -compulsive, Type A!  How I will fare, is another matter, but just to have completed it, and to feel happy about what I have done is entirely gratifying. 


To celebrate, I got out this thread I received months ago from Isdihara at  Ambitetterous months ago.  She was kind enough to send it to me after receiving a bunch of  vintage thread from an eBay auction.

The thread is very thin - #80ish, and a bit darker on the outside of the ball.  I tried it and found that for the sock edging it was too delicate, so decided to use it double for a #20 effect and had a few runs at the pattern from Mary Konior's Tatting with Visual Patterns...


It seems to work nicely doubled, and I LOVE these 
dollar-store beads - as will The Boss.
 


As I got into the interior of the balls, the thread became cleaner and did not feel so rough.  I like this pattern, called "Beaded Braid". The green one is the photo in the book. There is a second row.

  2. Woo-hoo! Congratulations on getting that T.A.T. package in the mail! I'm sure you'll have your PhD very soon - your work is wonderful. If you were happy with it, I'm sure it was GOOD :)

    Love the edging with multiple seed beads! I would never have thought of that - it looks great. The Boss will be pleased indeed!

  4. I like the Mary Konior edging and it has come out very pretty. I like your idea about doubling the thread. I probably try that on a fine thread I have not used as yet.

  5. I like what you've done with the pattern, it looks better with the smaller beads I think.

    It seems strange that the ball was lighter on the inside, if anything I'd have thought it would be the other way round with light fading the outside.

  6. The edgings are beautiful! I love vintage thread. I tat in vintage thread almost always. It is an obsession with me. I also find that the further in you get, the better the thread feels. Thanks for sharing!

    So glad you like the Star vintage tatting cotton. Doubling up the thread is brill, you clever lady! I never thought to try that.

    M - I think the thread was dirty on the outside and not faded and that is why it lightened up. It almost felt greasy...

    Gina, Good for you for remembering... it was in the autumn of 2008 I started - about a year and a half!

    Donnelly - You are brave to use so much vintage thread.... You must get it from a reliable source because it could be dirty or brittle and old, or smelly or any number of undesirable modifiers!

    The pink I used was great, but a little dry and broke easily.
