An Idea to Celebrate Tatting

Remember Angeline H. Crichlow's self-published book, Let's Tat! ? IsDihara wrote about it HERE.  This is a classic book and I managed to get a copy online.  There are not many copies and it is tatting treasure; also, a fun read, but it sits on my shelf, forgotten most of the time.

To celebrate International Tatting Day, 2010, I would like to share this old book with other tatters who are interested in reading it.  So, I will mail it to the first person who shows interest, and then she, or he, can mail it to the next interested tatter. I'd like to see it off my bookshelf indefinitely, appreciated by new readers!

What do you think?

Strangely enough, this is my 199th post
since tat-ology began ....

At this time, I am taking no more names, but am considering a second list in the future, as we get to the end of this one.  : )

  2. Oh wow what a cool idea, I would love that.

  3. What a splendid idea. Will you eventually get it back? Do hope it doesn't get lost in the post.

  4. YESSS!!! I am so pleased you three responded so quickly! I was hoping for this exact thing to happen.

Gina, I will send it to you and you can then send it to Tatskool and then off to Jane. We'll take it from there. I had the thought that there should be a huge time frame for people to keep it out there longer. I'll post about this later but wanted to respond asap.

Jane, I really do not care if I get it back as long as it is circulating and not languishing on a shelf somewhere. And if it gets lost in the mail... you could step off the curb and get hit by a truck! Trust me, I know! I WAS!

    Thanks, you guys! ♥

  5. Guess I'm too late but maybe the lucky person who gets to start with it will pass it on to me =)

  6. Oh I would love a chance to see this book too! This is such a treasure, and it is so sweet of you to share it. Whoever ships it will have to insure it's safety as best they can. I have actually had a book get lost in the post, and that would be such a loss.

  7. Oh can I creep in and borrow it after Jane, pretty please?!

  8. Hi Fox!
I'd love to see it! That one little tip you gave me from it was a real gem!
    What an amazing idea!

  10. How about this, if someone receives Fox's copy and doesn't know who to send it to next, send it to me and I will find the next recipient. It won't languish on my bookhelf, because I have a copy too!

Just looking to do my part for the first book in a traveling tatting library.

  14. I would love to see this book! I remember googling it when IsDihara blogged about it, and finding that there were no copies for sale because you had just bought the only one!

  15. Wow, Fox, congratulations on your 199th post! I come to your page on a regular basis. You're very talented, and I enjoy seeing your work and reading about your creations for the Boss and the Mini-Boss.

Great idea for International Tatting Day, and a very generous offer.

Looking forward to 200 more posts!

  16. Great post! Happy Tatting Day!

I'm pleased to say I have a copy of this amazing book and have been trying to track down (via my old diaries) exactly how I 'knew' to order it back in 1994! I'm assuming the leader of our tatting group had a copy, and I got the ordering information from her. I had no idea who Angeline was at the time.

It wasn't until after I received the book that I discovered it was hand bound by Angeline (age 80 by then)! The production of the book had to be so much work, let alone the amazing compilation of tatting patterns. A real treasure and a hugely important piece of tatting history.

I eventually found a lot of information about Angeline and her husband on the internet. And Teri Dusenbury has a "Hall of Fame" section of her blog which features some amazing letters Teri received from Angeline back in the 1990s.

I have my book under lock and key, so I applaud your generosity in sending your book on a Grand Tour! I know it will be appreciated by all!

  26. I think that's incredibly generous of you. I'm NOT going to add my name to the list as I'm pretty clumsy and tend not to borrow things from people for this reason. I don't know if you've ever heard of it but reminds me of bookcrossing.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Hey, Michelle,
I've been a member of bookcrossing forever!

Yes. it is along the same lines as what we are doing here, isn't it! No wonder I had the thought! Thanks for mentioning it.

  29. Hi,

    I am Bill from Ohio.

I think the idea was very generous and quite clever actually!

If I ever got my hands on the book, I would make a digital copy of it to keep it safe.

  32. Oh, Fox, If this book gets around to North Carolina, I would love to have a read and peak at it. There is a small group of tatters here that meets once a month, called the Tri-Tatters, who I am sure would love to see it, too.

  33. I would love to read it but maybe Australia is too far to send it when my turn come?
